Piece for Thought

Sarah is a lovely friend of mine all the way back (only 3 years ago) from Messiah College, who has agreed to write a post for FindingFelicity!

“I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought; and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.” ~G.K. Chesterton

The other day, my friend asked one of our three-year-old friends what she was thankful for.

“My Birthday!” she promptly replied.“When was your birthday?” asked my friend.

“After Christmas.”

It’s June. Christmas was six months ago. And yet she is thankful. Still completely wrapped up and happy she had a birthday.

Happiness is intricately tied to thankfulness. I believe that the more thankful we are, the happier we will be. Of course, to be thankful, we have to realize how much we have. It starts with recognizing the little things, things as small as “we have birthdays”—we were born! We survived for nine months inside of our mothers and we live another day each day in these complex incredible miracles of biology that are our bodies!

My challenge; to find something incredibly, ridiculously small to be thankful for today.

Focus on it. And be thankful for it!
